Alan Koterba, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.A.A.I., F.A.A.A.A.I.

Dr. Alan Koterba joined AAPB in 2010.  He completed Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Allergy/Immunology Fellowship at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Koterba is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology. He received his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio and a doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science at San Antonio.

 

His clinical interests include immunodeficiency, chronic sinusitis, urticaria and asthma.  He serves as a primary investigator on several clinical research trials and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. 

 

Dr. Koterba was voted ‘Best Allergist’  by the Palm 

Beach Post in 2021.  He enjoys traveling, golf and most of all spending time with his wife and son.

Elena Perez, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.A.A.I.

Dr. Elena Perez graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine with a combined MD/PhD degree in 1998. She completed her Residency in Pediatrics in 2001, and Fellowship in Allergy/Immunology in 2004, at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she stayed until 2008 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Perez is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Allergy/Immunology. She has remained actively involved throughout her career in several professional societies including the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI), American College of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (ACAI) and the Clinical Immunology Society (CIS) as well as the Immunodeficiency Foundation (IDF).She has been a continual member of the Primary Immunodeficiency Committee of the AAAAI and has also served as its chairperson. She has served as the Secretary, Vice Chair, and Chair of the Basic and Clinical Immunology interest section of the AAAAI, and as a Councilor of the Clinical Immunology Society. Dr. Perez moved back to the west coast of Florida in 2009 as Associate Professor at University of South Florida/All Children’s Hospital, and then in 2012 was recruited to the University of Miami as Chief of Pediatric Allergy/Immunology and director of the Jeffrey Modell Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies. Her clinical expertise is in primary immunodeficiency disorders and allergic conditions including asthma, eczema, and food and environmental allergies. She was actively involved in the addition of newborn screening for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency to the newborn screening panel in Florida, which started in October 2012. In 2016, she joined Allergy Associates of the Palm Beaches, where she is currently practicing allergy and immunology and caring for children and adults with these conditions. She has published many papers in the field of Allergy/Immunology with an emphasis in primary immunodeficiencies and gammaglobulin therapy.  She enjoys teaching rotating residents in the practice and often participates in community outreach events with the IDF.

Kayla Curran Aquilina, MPAS, PA-C

Kayla is a licensed and board-certified Physician Assistant, born and raised in Jupiter, Florida. She received her Bachelor of Health Science degree from the University of Florida in 2014, where she graduated Cum Laude. She went on to earn her Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from the University of Florida and gained her national certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) in 2019. She was nominated by the University of Florida physician assistant program director and faculty for induction into Pi Alpha, the Physician Assistant Education Association’s national honor society. As a graduate student she gained clinical experience in a multitude of settings including university clinics, hospitals, and private practices. She is an active member of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants and American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Shannon Snyder, PA

Shannon Snyder is native to Palm Beach County and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in chemistry at Florida Atlantic University Honors College.  In 2008, she obtained a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Touro University Nevada.  Although Shannon is new to Allergy Associates of the Palm Beaches, she has 9 years of experience working in the allergy/asthma/immunology specialty.  She has knowledge in treating allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, angioedema and other allergic conditions.  She also has prior experience working in internal medicine and pulmonology.  Shannon is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.  In her spare time she enjoys hiking, camping, boating and spending time with her husband and two boys.
